MIA PASSENGERS GET IN THE PILOT’S SEAT ON NATIONAL AVIATION DAY

WHAT: In celebration of National Aviation Day on August 19, Miami International Airport will let travelers experience what it feels like to be a pilot instead of just a passenger. Miami Dade College’s esteemed Eig-Watson School of Aviation will bring two of its flight simulators to MIA, so passengers can try their hand at performing advanced flight maneuvers. MIA will also provide interactive activities and special giveaways such as paper airplanes for passengers throughout the day. National Aviation Day was established by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1939 to celebrate the development of aviation in America. The commemorative day is the birthday of Orville Wright, who along with his brother Wilbur invented the first successful airplane in 1903.

WHERE: MIA’s Concourse D, Checkpoint #4, Second Level

WHEN: Friday, August 19, 2016, at 2:30 p.m.

(Simulators will be open to public 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. that day)

WHO: Miami-Dade Aviation Director Emilio T. González; Miami Dade College Homestead Campus President Dr. Jeanne F. Jacobs; and Miami Dade College Eig-Watson School of Aviation Dean Dr. Nicholas Spezza will be in attendance and be available for interviews.
