Florida Grand Opera is pleased to announce its 73rd continuous season of grand opera this year with the innovative new vision and provocative repertoire of General Director and CEO Susan T. Danis. Kicking off the season, FGO will host the exciting Southeast American premiere of Martin David Levy’sMourning Becomes Electra, followed by Verdi’sNabucco, Puccini’sTosca, and Massenet’sThaïs.

Season openerMourning Becomes Electratransports viewers to a small Massachusetts town and tells the mythic, twisted tale of passion, bitterness, incest, infidelity, and murder that befalls the seemingly prim and proper Mannon family shortly after the Civil War. Meanwhile,Nabuccofollows the anguishing journey of the ancient Hebrews in the face of Babylonian domination and their subsequent struggle as exiles. Next, Puccini’sToscaposes a riveting psychological drama that centers on famous diva, Floria Tosca, and her fight to save her handsome young lover while at the hands of vast political and emotional turmoil. Lastly,Thaïscloses out the season, set in ancient Egypt, where a cenobite monk seeks to convert the beautiful and seductive Alexandrian courtesan, Thaïs,to Christianity until he falls victim to her eroticism himself and must finally decide whether to give in to his lust or keep his faith.
